The Skaneateles Police Department has seen an increase in incidents of fraud in the recent past by individuals calling victims on their phone or contacting them via computer.  Law enforcement agencies want to remind people to avoid sharing personal information over the internet or with callers. 

The Skaneateles Police Department suggests using these simple tips to help keep you financially secure:

• Do not click on pop up ads on your computer
• Do not open emails or attachments from unknown sources
• Do not send money, gift cards or checks to unknown sources
• Do not give out personal information – legitimate companies will not ask for it
• Monitor your bank and credit card accounts for unusual activity
